Hinowa to build new JLG Booms

Hinowa is to start manufacturing new upgraded second generation versions of JLG’s 45 and 52ft electric articulated boom lifts, the 45ft EC450AJ and 52ft EC520AJ.

The new EC boom lifts will be unveiled on the Hinowa stand at Bauma, the two models essentially use the same base machine with a slightly longer boom on the EC520AJ. As with the first generation JLG 450/520AJs, they use a dual sigma type riser, topped by a two section telescopic boom and jib with 145 degrees of articulation. Power on the new models comes from a 200Ah lithium ion battery pack with a recharge time of 3.5 hours, through the 3kW onboard Zivan battery charger.
A dual 400Ah battery pack is optional. The travel function is provided by two AC direct wheel electric drive motors, with the option of four wheel drive. Both machines have an overall width of 2.26 metres and an overall height of 2.27 metres.

JLG’s general manager for Europe, Africa and the Middle East, Karel Huijser said: “We are incredibly proud of our long lasting partnership with Hinowa. The launch of the EC Series Gen 2 at Bauma, marks a successful collaboration between our two companies that is based on sharing the same values and an equal passion about product design and development. Whilst not being present at Bauma, we are proud to unveil the EC Series at the Hinowa stand.”

Hinowa president Davide Fracca added: “Our partnership is based on trust, and we are both committed to designing, building and supporting class leading product. We’re so pleased to celebrate not only our 35th anniversary this year, but also this meaningful 12.5 year partnership with JLG. We look forward to many more years of success together.”

The Hinowa/JLG partnership was announced at the SAIE exhibition in Bologna in October 2010 with JLG badging and supporting four Hinowa spider lift models for sale outside of the European Union. The agreement has been extended since then, both geographically and to a line up of six models. On at least one occasion an all-new Hinowa model has been launched in the JLG version in advance of the Hinowa model - the sign of a strong relationship.

An interesting move for both parties. The 12 year agreement has been beneficial to both sides, and fully supported by JLG, which is not always the case when it comes to manufacturers offering a badged product, especially a niche one. At the same time Hinowa’ s staff and owners - the Fracca family - have gained a great deal of knowledge and wider experience through working with JLG. This new agreement, however, steps up the co-operation, with a partner it knows exceptionally well and clearly trusts. Oh! and and will also have machines at Bauma after all.

The deal will also provide Hinowa with the potential for substantial increases in volume. The key to it becoming as successful as the original deal will depend on whether both parties can make a decent margin in an increasingly competitive and price sensitive part of the market, and whether Hinowa can meet the demand potential required by.

Hinowa is a class act, if anyone can make such a deal work, the Fracca family can.
