Dropped load in NY

Several people were injured yesterday when a load dropped from a crane on a water tunnel project in Woodside, Queens, across East River from Manhattan, New York.

The site is run by the city Department of Environmental Protection which said that the incident involved a dropped rebar container. The crane was a duty cycle crawler crane owned and operated by Walsh Construction. The cause appears to be the failure of a rope sling hooked to the container's (or is it a modern concrete bucket?) lifting yoke, causing it to drop. Five people working below were affected, but only one of them suffered any significant injuries.

The man was reported to be seriously hurt but that has not been confirmed - the other only had minor injuries. The incident is under investigation.
