140 new telehandlers for Gerken

German rental company Gerken has begun taking delivery of 140 new JCB telehandlers. The order includes a large number of six metre/2,500kg models - both electric and diesel - along with fixed frame models with lift heights from 10 to 18 metres and 360 degree models with lift heights of 21 and 25 metres.

The company has also ordered a wide range of accessories, including winches with two part hooks in order to convert some of the units, particularly the 360 degree models, into cranes.

Gerken managing director Markus Liffers said: “In addition to the classic diesel drive we have has also ordered battery electric compact telehandlers which can work all day on a single charge. It was important for us to be able to enable our customers to work more sustainably without having to compromise on performance."

“The demand for robust, high performance telehandlers with a wide range of uses has risen sharply in recent years. In order to meet the needs of our customers, we have therefore deliberately expanded our telehandler fleet. We not only paid special attention to the lifting capacity and range of the new devices, but also the high level of user friendliness, long maintenance intervals and a quiet background noise."

The Gerken rental business was established in 1989, but the company can trace its roots back to 1963 when Manfred Gerken opened a painting business in Duesseldorf. Having become a significant user of aerial lifts on larger painting contracts, he found himself gradually moving into rental, and set up the rental company Gerken Arbeitsbühnenvermietung in 1989. Telehandlers were added in 2014 and more recently the company has purchased spider cranes. The Gerken fleet is now made up of more than 9,000 aerial work platforms from 37 locations, including one in the Netherlands.
