The Port of Dover in the UK has taken delivery of a 104 tonne Liebherr LHM 550 mobile harbour crane.
The LHM 550 has been supplied with a 4.8 metre tower extension and offers a lifting capacity of 144 tonne at a radius of 54 metres. It also features Liebherr's SmartGrab, which operates as an intelligent system optimising grab filling rates in a self learning manner, helping increase the fill rate, while avoiding overloads.
The new crane joins an existing LHM 550 and an 84 tonne LHM 280, all powered by 100% renewable Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO) in line with the port's efforts to achieve decarbonisation goals and promote sustainability.
The crane can perform 32 cycles an hour in container operation as well as being able to work in nine or 75 to 88kph wind speeds allowing vessels to be unloaded in almost all conditions.
Emma Whelan, business development manager at Dover said: “The Cargo team would like to extend thanks to Liebherr for their professionalism and contribution to the extensive programme of investment that the terminal is undergoing to further enhance its deep-sea capabilities and support our robust eco-lens objectives.”
Liebherr maritime sales manager Rob Alexander added: “The purchase of its third LHM crane is a testament to our shared commitment to excellence and innovation in port operations. We look forward to further supporting the port in enhancing its capabilities and achieving new milestones.”
The port of Dover handles a third of British trade with the EU.
