First tower crane Diploma

Potain is hosting and supporting France’s first tower crane erector diploma programme at its training academy in Saint Pierre de Chandieu on the south east side of Lyon. The diploma organised by Frances rental and distributor association DLR, involves theoretical and hands on training for tower crane erection.

Students will receive a state recognised diploma after completing the 10 week programme spread over a year consisting of eight technicians and the combination of theoretical and practical courses.

As well as the 10 weeks of training, students must also engage in other assembly activities within their allotted companies as part of a work/ study contract.

The project was launched last April by the DLR tower crane commission, saw the its first group of students complete the programme and graduate. The second cohort, began in January, and is still underway.

Cédric Fourier, head of the Potain Training Centre said: “This initiative is essential for the profession and advances the professional standards of tower crane erectors. It enables certification for newcomers and offers experienced technicians access to the diploma through a Validation of Acquired Experience course.”

“It’s important to note that the first 16 graduates hail from companies such as AT-Optima, Duponchel, Potain, Saint Yves Services, Uperio, and Valente. Their participation in this inaugural session is essential in making the certification a reality.”

“We at the Potain training centre take great pride in the significant role we have played in establishing France’s first diploma training for tower crane erectors. This credential will strengthen the profession’s reputation, highlighting its true value. I am confident this initiative will resonate positively in other countries as well.”

Potain says that the training course will soon be listed on the Parcoursup platform, an online platform where high school students can apply to different schools, and when the Diploma is fully recognised, funding will be provided to help with training costs.
