Tadano cuts a deal ending its strike

Japanese crane manufacturer Tadano and its employees have reached an agreement on the future of the Zweibrücken facilities.

The negotiated deal was agreed between the company, the works council and the IG Metall union on Monday and approved by around 80 percent of the employees when they voted in a ballot organised by the union on Tuesday.

The deal stipulates that production, sales and development at the Zweibrücken site will be maintained until at least the end of 2028. In addition, the Wallerscheid plant will not be closed until the end of June next summer, and there will now ‘only’ be 250 redundancies instead of the original 400.

The agreement also provides for a steering committee to be set up with the aim is to secure the Zweibrücken site by helping it produce competitive products. As a result, employees were due to return to work this morning. A full meeting to explain the full details of the agreement will be held on Monday the 7th October.

A statement from the Tadano management said: "We are happy that the works council and IG Metall are working with us to make this possible in order to give the Zweibrücken site and the majority of jobs here a future."
