The Liebherr's crawler crane factory in Nenzing, Austria, has completed its switch to only producing machines powered by HVO fuel.
HVO (Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil) is a synthetic fuel primarily derived from waste vegetable oils, animal oils and fats from the food industry. These are processed into hydrocarbons using hydrogen.
The company claims the switch will save 300,000 litres of diesel a year and reduce CO2 emissions by 810 tonnes.
Since August, a Vorarlberg transport company has been conducting all transport operations for Nenzing using HVO powered vehicles. This shift alone has reduced transport emissions by 23 percent, saving 3,500 tonnes of CO2 and lowering the site's supply chain impact.
