UK rental company Southern Cranes and Access has taken delivery of a Liebherr MK 140-5.1 mobile self-erecting tower crane, with a second unit due to arrive in the coming weeks.
The five axle MK 140-5.1 - which replaces an older MK 140 - can take its eight tonne maximum capacity to a radius of 12 metres and a hook height of 36 metres. With the jib in ‘trolley’ mode, the crane has a jib tip capacity of 1,900kg at 58.5 metres radius and a hook height of just under 40 metres. It can also be used in luffing mode with a range from 20 to 70 degrees to achieve a maximum hook height of 94.4 metres or a maximum radius of 65 metres with a 1,000kg capacity.
Southern’s crane operators have received familiarisation training at Liebherr’s UK Headquarters on the first unit.
Southern Cranes’ director, Kelvin Prince said: “We have always been a strong supporter of Liebherr’s MK range, having the UK the very first MK100, MK88 and MK140. It wasn’t a hard decision to make when replacing our two older machines, they look fantastic in our new livery and will fit beautifully into our fleet profile. We would like to thank our partners at Liebherr Great Britain for their help and we look forward to many more years trading.’’
Established in 1997, family run Southern Cranes & Access is based in Horsham south of London and covers a large area around London and the southeast with a fleet that includes All Terrain, mobile self-erecting tower and spider cranes as well aerial work platforms and telehandlers - both fixed frame and 360 degree models.
