UPA switches to HVO

UK based United Powered Access (UPA) is to transition its entire rental fleet from diesel to Hydrogenated Vegetable Oil (HVO) fuel by July as part of its mission to net zero.

The decision follows research into alternative fuels, including solar power, hydrogen, and HVO, also known as ‘biodiesel’. UPA found that fully electric or hybrid machinery, while promising, faces practical challenges, such as limited charging infrastructure on many construction sites.

By adopting HVO UPA expects to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 80 percent compared to traditional diesel. This move aims to lessen the overall carbon footprint of both UPA's operations and those of its customers.

The company is also focusing on up-skilling its employees, offering sustainability training, and driving continuous improvement in its practices as part of its broader commitment to sustainable operations.
