The company was acquired by GW Deeley in 1967, initially serving as the in-house transport and access division for the Coventry based construction company. In the 1980s, the business expanded its services to external customers, followed by the acquisition of Alljay Tool Hire in 1990.

The company entered the aerial work platform market through the acquisition of Leamington Spa based Thumb-a-Lift, adding a fleet of scissor lifts and boom lifts to its range. In 2000, the company then rebranded as Clements Plant & Tool Hire to reflect its expanded product portfolio.

A significant ownership change occurred when Jim Longstaff acquired the company from the Deeley Group, establishing Clements Plant & Access Hire with industry veteran John Jennings as chairman. Following Jennings' retirement in 2015, Longstaff took ovver as chairman, with Adrian Hutchinson joining as managing director.

In April 2023 Kent based FGS Plant acquired the business, incorporating it into Heathcote Holdings.
