French contractor Fontanel has taken four Potain flat top tower cranes for work on the €9.8 million Vues Ciel development in Lyon, with three units for its own fleet and a fourth on a rental basis from local dealer Valente Grue Assistance.

The cranes include a 12 tonne MDT 248 rigged with a 40 metre jib and under hook height of 38 metres, a 12 tonne MDT 268 with 40 metre jib and under hook height of 57 metres, a 12 tonne MDT 269 with 55 metre jib and 62 metre height, plus a 16 tonne MDT 389 L16 with 70 metre jib and 78 metre under hook height from Valente Grue Assistance.
The cranes will handle more than 60,000 litres of concrete a day and lift a range of loads including prefabricated balconies weighing around eight tonnes. Located in a Concerted Development Zone in Lyon's Gratte-Ciel district, the six tower development - with the highest reaching 59 metres - is led by Groupe Serl and includes housing, commercial buildings, a supermarket, cinema and car park covering over 61,000 square metres of floor space.
The development uses organic and geo sourced materials including hemp concrete and raw earth, with one crane's concrete foundation scheduled for removal to allow new trees to take root. Construction is scheduled for completion in early 2027.
