New – old recruit for Pop Up

UK based low level access specialist Pop Up Products has appointed Martin Cheese as business development consultant.

Cheese has spent most of his career in the access equipment business, working with everything from scaffold to self-propelled low level aerial work platforms. He returns to Pop up after a 13 year hiatus having previously spent seven years with the company as sales manager from its early pioneering days of 2005 to 2012 when he moved to Power Towers.

He began his career in the Merchant Navy, leaving in 1977, for scaffold company Access Equipment in Birmingham and remained in the scaffold supply industry for the next 24 years, working with companies such as GKN, Eigertower, and Scafhire. In 2001 he started his own business, MTD, and trained as an IPAF instructor with Instant Training.

In 2005, he left the MTD business to join Pop-Up to work with a new product the company was to launch at the start of 2006 - the low-level access push around scissor lift dubbed the Pop Up : See A viable push around. The new concept/product took off rapidly aided by the introduction of the new Work at Height regulations.

In 2012 he moved to Power Towers, initially as sales manager for the UK, rising to international sales manager, with responsibility for South America, Australasia, and Asia, with additional duties after JLG acquired the business in 2015. He officially retired from JLG/Pop Up last October.

Pop Up’s managing director Nigel Woodger said: “Having Martin return feels like welcoming family back home, we are excited about the market knowledge and energy he brings and can’t wait to see what we can accomplish together. We’re looking forward to the next chapter and all the great things ahead.”

Cheese will kick off his new spell with Pop Up this week, when he will join the team on the Pop Up Products/Axo Lift stand at Vertikal Days on Wednesday. Axo Lift provides some of its models to Pop Up under an OEM type badging agreement.
