Two Groves for Iceland

Icelandic crane sales and rental company DS Lausnir has taken delivery of two five axle Grove All Terrains, a 250 tonne GMK5250XL-1 and a 150 tonne GMK5150L-1.

The GMK5250XL features an eight section 78.5 metre main boom topped by an 18 metre bi-fold swingaway extension that can be extended to 34 metres with additional inserts. Features include Grove’s Maxbase variable outrigger setup and all wheel steer. Power comes from a single HVO ready Stage V Mercedes diesel which is said to offer a 30 percent reduction in fuel consumption. For its first job, it was deployed on a residential development project at Þorraholt in Garðabær, assisting in laying precast concrete floors weighing up to 11 tonnes at a radius of up to 40 metres.

The GMK5150L-1 has a 60 metre six section main boom topped by an 11.2 to 17.8 metre bi-fold swingaway extension, which can be extended to 33.8 metres for a maximum tip height of 96.8 metres. The crane can travel with up 10.2 tonnes of its 42.5 tonne counterweight within a 12 tonne axle loads. The new crane includes Grove's latest telematics system to provide real time diagnostics and remote support.

DS Lausnir owner Daníel Sigurðarson said: “Iceland doesn't give you easy weather or easy logistics. We wanted cranes that just get on with the job. Our new Groves give us the reach, roadability and all weather readiness we need for year round work in Reykjavík and across the country.”

Established in 2002, DS Lausnir is based in Hafnarfjörður on the southwest side of Reykjavik. It runs an extensive fleet of both top slewing and self-erecting tower cranes as well as All Terrains to 400 tonnes, loader/knuckle boom cranes and spider cranes. It also a dealer for Cattaneo and Comansa tower cranes as well as Potain.
