Serengeti Park Airbus

German rental company Schlamann Autokrane used two Liebherr All Terrains, a 300 tonne LTM 1300-6.3 and a 250 tonne LTM 1250-5.1, to unload and position a decommissioned Airbus A310 in a tandem lift at the Serengeti Park in Germany. The two cranes placed the main fuselage, weighing 49 tonnes, onto prepared bearings, where it will be used to house a restaurant.

During the tandem lift, the LTM 1300-6.3 handled 32.5 tonnes of the load at a radius of up to 22 metres using 77 tonnes of ballast, whilst the LTM 1250-5.1 managed the remaining 16.5 tonnes with 42 tonnes of ballast.

Schlamann managing director Torsten Schlamann said: “The aircraft was transported here from Langenhagen Airport - we loaded it there and unloaded it here. The LTM 1300-6.3 has been in operation since March and is the largest crane in our fleet.”

Dirk Jasper of Serengeti Park added: “Five years ago, we had the crazy idea of converting an aircraft into a restaurant. Four years ago, we bought one at auction. There were obstacles such as official requirements and driving permits, but now we are happy that it is here. The restaurant's opening ceremony is planned for September next year.”

Based in Nienburg, northern Germany, Schlamann the company runs a rental fleet of around 250 machines, inluding 21 cranes, along with aerial work platforms and fork trucks with 90 employees at four locations.
