Twin 100 tonners for South Africa

South African rental companies Concord Cranes and Marlboro Crane Hire have taken delivery of 100 tonne Liebherr LTM 1100-5.3 All Terrain cranes, they are the first two Liccon 3 units of their kind in South Africa.

The five axle LTM 1100-5.3 features a seven section 62 metre main boom plus a 9.5 to 16 metre bi-fold swingaway which can be offset to 40 degrees and provides a maximum tip height of 68 metres. It is equipped with the Liccon3 control system, a Stage V diesel and Liebherr’s VarioBase and VarioBallast. It can carry up to 16.9 tonnes of counterweight within 12 tonne axle loads and has an overall width of 2.55 metres. Nine tonne axle loads are also achievable.

Concord chief executive Wayne McCullagh said: “With the new Liccon3 system, one will experience the same familiar simplicity of Liccon2, now enhanced with a modern interface and the practical engineering excellence that Liebherr is known for.”

Marlboro managing director, Kathleen Dias, added: “The first thing that attracted us was the aesthetically pleasing design of the Liccon3 cranes. For me, details matter, and this crane boasts a sleek, modern and high quality appearance, which is easy on the eye.”

Based in Johannesburg and founded in 1992 by Henry Oliver Dalais, Marlboro Crane Hire operates a fleet of 125 cranes ranging from four to 1,200 tonnes operating predominantly in the mining, construction and industrial sectors. The latest purchase is part of a larger fleet replacement programme targeting cranes over 80 tonnes.

With its headquarters in Midrand, in the north of the country, Concord Cranes is part of the Bud group. It offers services including crane rental - ranging from eight to 800 tonnes - rigging and transport services. It operates from 11 facilities in South Africa, and two in Namibia.
