Second 450 tonner for Richter Kran

German rental and heavy haulage company Richter Kran und Schwerlast has taken delivery of its second 450 tonne Liebherr LTM 1450-8.1 All Terrain crane.
The handover

The eight axle LTM 1450-8.1 can travel with its full 85 metre main boom in place, along with outriggers and winch within 12 tonne axle loads. In the UK where axle loads of up to 16 tonnes are tolerated, it can also travel with its seven metre swingaway extension and up to 24 tonnes of counterweight on board. The crane comes complete with VarioBallast adjustable counterweight and VarioBase variable outrigger set up system.

For its first job, in Beilrode, Saxony, the crane lifted battery storage units each weighing 47 tonnes for a solar park covering around 100 hectares. This was followed by a project in Lemgo, during which a 32 tonne cover was lifted onto a large thermal storage tank at a hook height of 74 metres.

Owner Matthias Richter said: “The LTM 1450-8.1 covers a wide range of applications - from industrial projects to complex operations in the energy and infrastructure sectors. With the addition of the 450 tonne crane, we are also gaining the flexibility we need to reliably handle the current high volume of orders, even whilst working on multiple projects simultaneously.”

Matthias Richter started off as a 'one man band' in 2007 with a single loader crane, setting up Richter Kran und Schwerlast that same year in Grimma, central Germany. He initially focused on transporting building materials. Then in 2016 he purchased his first mobile crane, a Liebherr LTF 1060-4.1 truck mount, which he still uses for turbine foundations. He then added two more Liebherr’s - the LTM 1070-4.2 and an LTM 1090-4.2 - and by 2019, had 20 employees and was obliged to move to a new site in Leipzig.

The company now employs 75 and offers both transport and crane rental, running a fleet of 22 Liebherr cranes – including MK self-erectors and telescopic crawlers - ranging from 60 to 750 tonnes.
