Five Groves for J&D

Scottish steelwork contractor J&D Pierce has taken delivery of five new Grove All Terrain cranes: three five-axle models, a 250-tonne GMK5250XL-1 and two 150-tonne GMK5150XLs, plus two four-axle 100-tonne GMK4100L-2s.

The company - which claims to run the UK's largest Grove fleet - has ordered the cranes to help cover several projects, including a High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) energy development in Scotland, an indoor arena in Cardiff, and the redevelopment of a football stadium stand in North Wales.

Managing director Jamie Pierce said: “Structures are becoming larger, heavier and more complex, while clients are increasingly looking for off-site fabrication and modular construction solutions. Investing in additional lifting capacity allows us to undertake more of these projects using our own resources, reducing reliance on external suppliers and giving us greater flexibility in how we deliver for our clients."

Founded in 1975, J&D Pierce is based in Glengarnock - southwest of Paisley - in Ayrshire, south west Scotland. It bought its first Grove crane in 1997 and has gone on to purchase nearly 30 additional Groves since, including a large order in 2021.
