Japanese Company for Mammoet

Dutch international heavy lifting and moving contractor Mammoet has set up a new Japanese subsidiary, Mammoet Japan.

Establishing a locally incorporated business is aimed at building on Mammoet’s existing presence in the country by providing a stronger structure for conducting business and delivering local projects, while maintaining access to its worldwide engineering expertise and equipment fleet.

The new company will be led by representative director /managing director Yusuke Kakinuma, who began working with Mammoet in 2017, when he joined the company as a senior sales manager. In 2021, he moved to wind power specialist Ørsted in a market development role, returning to Mammoet in 2024. His career began in 2004 with engineering and manufacturing group JGC, moving to Mammoet in 2017.

Mammoet has worked regularly with Japanese companies for more than 30 years, on major plant and infrastructure projects internationally as well as in Japan, including lifting and placing 1,100 tonne reactor vessels for the expansion of the Showa Yokkaichi Oil Refinery in 1995.

More recently, it has provided engineering studies for the Akita and Noshiro offshore wind farms, Japan’s first large scale offshore wind farm with 23 large turbines. Mammoet’s PTC 35 ring crane was also used in a floating offshore wind demonstration project in Fukushima.

Yusuke Kakinuma said: “Our ambition is to build Mammoet Japan into a trusted local partner that contributes to the growth of Japan’s energy and industrial sectors. For customers, the new Japanese entity will allow us to build local capacity, respond more effectively to project needs and reduce execution risk, while delivering work safely and in accordance with Japanese requirements.”
