The Ace of Spades
The Ace of Spades a P&H 757 has been working at Stobswood near Morpeth in Northumberland since 1991, when it replaced ‘Big Geordie’ which was recently cut up for scrap after being on the market for 11 years.
The massive machine, the last big dragline in the UK weighs 4,500 tonnes, has a 100 metre boom and a 100 tonne capacity bucket, it can take the bucket out to a radius of 75 metres and a dump height of 45 metres.
After several years waiting to find a buyer the dragline is currently been dismantled in preparation for its move to the Port of Blyth for shipment to a North America Coal Corporation lignite mine in the USA.
