Store hit by crane

An electrical retailer in Brighton, near Melbourne, Australia, which was closed due to a bad fire has now been hit by a tipping crane.

The crane, an older Demag, was working on the repair work to the building’s roof, when it toppled over, with the boom coming to rest on the building. Thankfully no one was injured in the incident

The shop, the Good Guys in Brighton, has relocated to temporary premises next door while the work is carried out. Fire crews, police and WorkSafe Victoria officers are on the scene.

A bad fire gutted the store in mid January causing around $1 million of damage.

The crane was properly set up in terms of its outriggers, with good sized mats employed, however it looks as though the operator forgot to fit all of his counterweight, leaving a portion on the deck. Please register to see all images
