Final innovations from ARA

We wrap up our on line coverage of the ARA with a couple more new products in the access and lifting sector,

Custom Equipment has shown a new low level ultra-compact self propelled lift at the ARA this week. Dubbed the Hy-Brid 5530 it has similar dimensions to a mast type lift along the lines of the UpRight TM12, JLG 1230ES and Genie Runabouts, but uses a small scissor stack rather than a mast.

The unit has a five foot platform height – 1.5 metres and includes a roll-out deck extension. The company says that the unit is still at the concept stage, but will go into production, possibly with a higher version in the eight to 10 ft range.

We tested the unit out on the stand and were very impressed with how easy it was to operate, and by the precision of and smoothness of the controls. The unit is battery powered for all functions including the vacuum lifting head. The main functions feature full pressure hydraulic controls, while the steering is mechanical using a handlebar design which allow the close coupled dual wheels to be turned a full 90 degrees allowing the unit to turn within its own length.

The vacuum head can be pivoted 90 degrees to allow a large glass panel to be carried though a standard single doorway.

UK power washing

UK based pressure washer manufacturer Brendon Powerwashers was testing the North American market this week with its range of high quality mobile and portable pressure washers.

The trailer based mobile unit on display was a superb example of good design and engineering. The key to success of course is how the products work in the real world. If Bendon’s products work half as well as the three man team representing the company in Atlanta claim, then the company has a world beater on its hands.
