Tower crane collapse

A tower crane collapse onto a block of apartments in Nizhny Novgorod, Russia, on Wednesday killing a mother and child and injuring 10 others.

The cranes tower buckled close to its base and came down on the top of the five storey block, completely demolishing the outer top floor apartments.

It then struck the top floor of the building opposite

Investigators have said that the most likely cause of the accident was that the crane had been improperly erected. Rostekhnadzor interregional territorial administration for Volga federal district has launched an investigation into the incident.

According to the authority, the KBM-401.P crane is owned by OOO EFTO and was being erected or extended when it failed. It also added that the apartments destroyed by the crane will be repaired at the expense of the local and regional government as well as the company responsible for the tragedy.
