Mammoet recovers fallen crane
The 80 tonne All Terrain crane that tipped over in Manchester at the end of March has been recovered by a 450 tonne All Terrain from Mammoet, with the assistance of a smaller model.

Packing is placed under the crane's base section in order to remove weight from the boom tip and extension
The recovery was quite tricky as the crane fell over with a considerable amount of boom extended, as well as having an extension fitted. A good portion of the cranes weight was resting on the boom which had to be jacked up with packing places under the base section of the boom in order to relieve the weight on the boom nose and boom extension which was then cut off.
In the end Mammoet's 450 tonne Grove GMK7450 was rigged with the fallen crane in balance, allowing it to be lifted, with a little assistance from the second crane, to a position where it was prepared for transport to Hewden's Castleford depot for further inspection by the HSE.

The 450 tonne Grove had to be positioned very carefully in the confined space
Sadly we have not yet received any more details or photographs of how the rest of the recovery went. As soon as we do we will publish them. Recoveries such as this are notoriously challenging and thus generate a good deal of interest in how they are carried out.
We understand that the recovery went ahead without a hitch
