Liebherr opens in Antwerp

Liebherr-Werk Nenzing has established a new Mobile Harbour Crane sales and service station in Antwerp, Belgium.

The new branch is loacated at Vaartkaai 16 in Merksem and will be managed by Johan Gouverneur, regional sales manager of Liebherr who said: “As an Antwerp resident, I’m excited to participate in the company’s growth and offer customers a locally based contact person.”

A total of five service engineers based at the new Antwerp branch, will look after all Liebherr maritime equipment situated in Belgium and the Moerdijk region of Holland.

Liebherr sold its first harbour cranes into Belgium in 1990 with the sales of a mobile harbour crane to Westerlund on the left bank of the Scheldt.

Knowing that this first crane was of very importance for both, Liebherr signed an all-in service contract wihch is still valid although cranes have now logged over 180.000 operational hours. Liebherr Maritime has 10 customers in Belgium operating 12 mobile harbour cranes, one fixed cargo crane and three reachstackers: Westerlund, IMT, NHS, Ancon, Gosselin TCT, GTS Ghent, SeaRo Zeebrugge, TRW Genk and Charleroi Dry port both part of TRW (IFB).

In addition there are 14 customers in the Netherlands with a total of 18 mobile harbour cranes which sums up to a total of 34 pieces of equipment in the Benelux area.

Gouverneur said: “We have found strong demand in Belgium for our local support. We look forward to enhance our presence in the Belgian market and provide most cost effective services. This strategic move in the region places us in a position to offer our Belgian clients more valuable and customer oriented solutions hand in hand with a world class service.”
