Crane brings down bridge

A crawler crane caused the Balandra bridge to collapse in Trinidad this weekend as it attempted to cross. The crane an American model 5260 was halfway across when the bridge in Trinidad’s north-east coast, gave way dropping the crane into the river. No one was injured in the incident.

The fallen bridge, the red boom of a Manitowoc is used as a makeshift bridge

The crane was being used to construct a new bridge nearby linking Toco with the rest of the Island. A number of people were stranded on the wrong side of the river, so another crane, an old Manitowoc crawler crane, lowered its boom across the river to create a makeshift footbridge.

No one was injured, however residents and visitors were forced to abandon their vehicles on either side of the bridge and make the trek in mud, along loose, wooden planks used as a makeshift bridge.
