Liebherr provides more detail on 3,000 tonner

Liebherr has unveiled more information on the new LR13000 being assembled at its Ehingen plant. The new range topping conventional crawler crane is rated at 3,000 tonnes at 12 metre radius.

The company is targeting it at the latest generation of nuclear power plants that are scheduled to be constructed in the coming years, as well as large 100 metre high refinery columns weighing around 1,500 tonnes each.

Liebherr's massive LR13000 starts to go together

The new crane will have a maximum boom and jib combination of 246 metres, comprising a 120 metre main boom and 126 metre luffing jib, providing a maximum hook height of 240 metres.

A new boom system allows for four different boom systems to be combined - light, medium heavy, heavy, and super-heavy, depending on the operational requirements.

Liebherr claims that the LR 13000 will be the only crawler crane in its size class which can work without a suspended superlift counterweight. This is achieved by fitting a much stronger slew ring, developed and manufactured specifically for the application by Liebherr.

The standard superstructure counterweight ranges from 400 to 750 tonnes, while a suspended superlift counterweight system of up to 1,500 tonnes is available with the 54 metre derrick boom, which can be adjusted without a guide, steplessly from 20 to 30 metres radius.

As an alternative, a new concept of counterweight trailer system is also offered for the LR 13000, for which the standard suspended counterweight is combined with heavy lift module trailers (SPMT).

The LR 13000 uses of two Liebherr V8 diesel engines, producing a total power rating of 1,000 kW / 1,360 hp.

The hoist ropes are 52 mm and are 2,000 metres long, the main hoists have a line pull of 62 tonnes. All winches are driven by several independent motors which can continue working even if one of them fails and has to be replaced.

The main hook block, seen at Bauma, weighs 111 tonnes and is 9.7 metres high, for lifting up to 3,000 t. It is of modular design and consists of a maximum of two hooks and six pulley sets, with five pulleys each. It can be configured easily for different operational purposes.

No single component on the LR13000 weighs more than 70 tonnes and most of the components have a transport height of no more than 3.6 metres and four metres of width.

Each track/crawler is over 3.5 metres high by 20 metres long, and weighs around 210 tonnes. The tracking itself weighs 82 tonnes and is removed for transport, split and transported in containers. The 128 tonne track carrier is divided in half, and travels on two low-loaders. The 4.5 metre diameter slew ring, is transported diagonally in order to keep its width and height to under four metres.

The counterweight slabs, weigh 25 tonnes each and are made of reinforced concrete for cost reasons. They have the exact dimensions of a 20-foot container and can be loaded with a standard spreader.
