Harsco Infrastructure wins deal in Ethiopia
Harsco Infrastructure, the new name for the combined SGB, Hünnebeck and Patent businesses, has won a major contract to supply formwork and related engineering support for the Gibe iii hydroelectric dam in Southern Ethiopia.
The contract is expected to be worth well in excess of $2 million. The company will be working for Italian general contractor Salini Costruttori, for which it has worked on other contracts in the past.
The 243 metre high dam is being built on the Omo River and will serve Ethiopia and its surrounding neighbors with up to 1,870 MW of electric power, more than doubling Ethiopia’s power generating capacity. The dam will also provide flood protection for the region and help to regulate water supplies during the dry season.
Harsco says that it intends to establish a local support office in northern Africa this summer to provide access engineering, technical site support and erection and dismantling services in support of its growing African presence.
