Rapid sign removal
Suspended platform rental company Spider, jumped into action recently to help remove the massive Nike advertisement featuring LeBron James from the Sherwin Williams building in Cleveland after he announced his departure from the Cleveland Cavaliers basketball team.
James made his announcement on live TV on July 8th, stating that he was quitting to play for Miami Heat in the 2010-2011 NBA season. The way he made the announcement after seven years with his home team, upset people in Cleveland to such an extent that there were threats to burn the sign down.
Spider, reacted quickly having a 12 metre long/40ft swing-stage platform with traction hoists in position within 12 hours in order to enable contractor Bricklayers Inc, to dismantle the 33 metre high by 64 metre/212ft wide mesh banner which weighs over 1,200kgs.

The removal also had to be fast as Cleveland’s Metro Transit rail system runs below the sign with trains stopped while the sign came down.
John Sotiroff, Spider’s vice president, sales and distribution said: “We provided the access equipment and rigging for Bricklayers, Inc to install this banner in 2005. Our Cleveland team rose to the occasion to immediately deliver a safe, reliable solution for this urgent situation, impressing the contractor, building owner, and Cleveland fans who were eager to erase Lebron’s memories from their hometown.”
The original banner went up in December 2005,
