Spiders in the Cotswolds

UK based Cotswold Tool & Plant Hire has purchased its first tracked spider lift, a 17 metre CTE Traccess 170.

Cotswold is a family owned business based in Chipping Norton with a fleet of general equipment including earthmoving, compressors and tools. Until now its access offering was limited to a Nifty Trailer lift. However demand from its customers to supply tracked spider lifts has increased significantly over the past 12 months or so.

Managing director Derek Coleman started looking at what was available in early 2010 but did not come to a head until this February following a visit to the hire show in Coventry and then asking CTE for a demonstration.

The most critical requirement was to be able to load easily onto the company’s fleet of 7.5t Isuzu beaver tail trucks, which the CTE did with ease. The Cotswold team particularly liked the umbilical cord control facility and the “solid feel” in the platform.

Following further enquiries to other local CTE Traccess users, the order was placed for a standard rental company specification, with 200kg unrestricted platform capacity, diesel engine and 110volt mains electric auxiliary power system.

Coleman said: We understood and appreciate the benefits of the compact track mounted access platforms over the more cumbersome trailer mounted units especially for our customers who need to gain access to the rear of properties with very limited access. The CTE Traccess 170 is the perfect machine for our first step into this market.”
