New crane for Breuer & Wasel

German-based crane rental company, Breuer & Wasel’s has taken delivery of a new Liebherr LR 1600/2 crawler crane.

Breuer & Wasel's new Liebherr LR 1600/2 crawler crane lifting a 454 tonne bridge.

The crane was immediately put to use lifting a 454 tonne railway bridge in Hürth-Fischenich, near Cologne. It replaced the previous bridge which dated back to 1903. The LR 1600/2 was equipped with a 42 metre main boom with a derrick boom. The superstructure was loaded with 150 tonnes of ballast, the central with 65 tonnes and the derrick with 320 tonnes of ballast.

Not only did the bridge weigh 454 tonnes but it was also 46 metres long. The LR 1600/2 lifted it from the pre-assembly area, slewed through 180 degrees and then travelled twenty metres towards its final location.

This latest unit brings the total number of Liebherr crawler cranes in Breuer & Wasel’s fleet to six.
