Tractor mounted National

Canadian oilfield trucking and hauling company Trans Carrier has added a 50 tonne National Crane NBT55 to its fleet.

The company, based in Ford St. John, purchased the crane from National Crane’s dealer in Vancouver, Falcon Equipment and specified the longer five section 39 metre main boom. An optional 7.5 metre to 13.6 metre telescopic swingaway extension can raise the hook height to around 53 metres. The unit is equipped with both main and auxiliary hoists.

Trans Carrier’s new 50 tonne National Crane NBT55 is mounted on a special Kenworth semi-tractor

The crane is mounted on a custom-designed six axle Kenworth ‘big rig’ truck, which can and is permitted to tow a trailer, allowing one vehicle to carry out the loading, the delivery, the unloading and placement of the item being delivered. Trans Carrier expects to make substantial savings in crane rental fees as well as being more environmentally efficient.

Blair Norberg, Falcon Equipment sales manager said: “Mounting the NBT55 on the Kenworth presented an interesting challenge that required cooperation from both the manufacturers and the customer. This is the only NBT55 in North America to be mounted on a semi-tractor, not only is it a first for Trans Carrier, it’s a first for Falcon!”

Trans Carrier general manager Tyler Kosick added: “Before our new NBT55, many of the jobs for our customers required both a crane and a tractor-trailer. We spent a lot of time, effort and money to get two units out to the site. Traditionally a customer would rent both a crane and a tractor-trailer to move the load to the site, make the pick, and then return. Getting the crane and the load to the destination could take days, costing customers thousands in rental fees.”
