Liebherr's 100th mobile harbour crane for the African Continent

Released last year the LHM 550 mobile harbour crane has been designed for all types of general cargo, containers and bulk commodities with its 74 metre lifting height and 150 tonne capacity. This order will be added to APM Terminals’ fleet which currently comprises of nine heavy-duty machines operating at terminals in Benin, Luanda and Apapa.

Liebherr claims that: “The LHM 550 has the potential to become its best selling mobile crane in Africa with already eight machines in operation and several orders in the backlog since the unveiling last year. The global trend towards heavy-duty cranes may even increase the demand for the LHM 550.”

Liebherr first supplied two LHMs to Africa in 1976 which were dedicated to container handling. In 1996 it delivered the first LHMs suitable for bulk handing.
