Crane operators strike on Glasgow site

A number of tower crane operators - said to be 14 or 15 –have walked out on strike on the new Southern General hospital job site in Glasgow Scotland.

The operators, employed by the CLR Plant Hire/Dunne Group, claim that a promised pay increase is not being paid.

The cranes are currently pouring concrete among other jobs and could causes significant disruption. A spokesman for the sites main contractor, Brookfield is reported to have said: “Dunne Group are working with the union to resolve the matter and are confident this can be done quickly. Work is continuing on the site.”

Dunne Group is a specialist cladding and concrete contractor that merged its own Dunne Plant hire operations with CLR Plant Hire to provide equipment for its contracting businesses. It runs a fleet of around 16, mostly Comedil tower cranes along with six or seven mobile and crawler cranes.
