With restricted space available Stevedoring Services opted for the more compact HMK 170 E which has a 63 tonne maximum lifting capacity and a working radius of up to 38 metres.

Given its geographical location the crane will also be equipped with Demag’s teleservice remote crane function which allows the manufacturer’s engineers in Germany to access production and diagnostic data without interrupting operations.

Peter Aldrich the chief executive operator of Stevedoring Service said: “For the first time in our history we have a crane that is at the cutting edge of handling technology. Its excellent value for money was a decisive factor which contributed to an order being placed.”

The crane is to be fully assembled in Rotterdam and shipped to Hamilton in the spring.
