Dingli has confirmed the availability of a 500mm ‘Extra Deck’ step up height extension for its slab scissor lift including models sold in Europe.
The Extra Deck is permanently installed within the roll-out deck extension, to use it the Extra Deck guardrail is raised from regular guardrail, the deck element folded down from the front and the bar type gate raised into place. The result? - an additional 500mm of work height that can reach above a beam or through a false ceiling tile space.
The extra deck has no impact on the main platform capacity, and the lift can still be driven while elevated, although when the lift used outside, and the Extra Deck is raised the maximum lift height is reduced by 1.5 metres. The rating is also reduced to one person.
Dingli said: “Safety is always the top priority, the work environment can sometimes prevent the scissors being raised to the required height, or when the platform is just a little too low at full height. Sadly, as we can see in Vertikal Death Wish stories, and accident reports, users faced with this challenge, take dangerous risks—such as standing on platform’s guardrails or placing a plank on the platform to gain extra reach. These unsafe practices significantly increase the risk of falls and serious injury.
The Dingli ‘Extra Deck’ was developed specifically to address this sort of behaviour”
The Dingli Extra Deck is the MEC design - Dingli owns a controlling interest in MEC - so it makes total sense to simply adopt a winning and well proven product. You will be able to try the Extra Deck for yourself at Vertikal Days next month.
The MEC Xtra Deck
Vertikal Comment
A quick check on the introduction of this type of ‘step up’ indicates that the first mass producer of scissor lifts to unveil such an innovation was MEC, with its Xtra Deck on the Micro 13XD. Displayed at the ARA Show in 2020. The company was confident enough in its uniqueness to apply for a patent – which appears to have been granted - Patent Number 12,252,380.
As to the competitors? Several other manufacturers now also offer such step up platforms, one assumes that they have been designed to avoid the key elements of the MEC patent.
