Challenger 3160 for S&B Schwertrans

German crane rental company S&B Schwertrans has taken delivery of a new 55 tonne Terex 3160 Challenger All Terrain crane.

The company’s general manager Uwe Steinkamp, travelled to the Terex crane plant in Zweibrücken in order to personally collect the company’s latest acquisition. “This is actually the sixth Terex crane for our fleet,” said Steinkamp.

We liked the Challenger’s ease of operation, compact design and 50 metre main boom, which are all ideal for the type of assignments we normally handle. The last few years have seen an increase in the number of indoor projects we carry out. So it was only logical to order the Challenger with a ‘Runner’ (a short assembly jib) which enables the crane to lift loads just inches away from ceilings when necessary.”

“The Challenger 3160 is also our first crane to comply with the requirements in the Euromot Stage IIIb set of international emission regulations and when you really want to do something for the environment, you have to make sure you’re working with the latest technology.”

The new crane is due to go straight to work on an assembly project at a large car plant. Given that S&B Schwertrans is based in Grifhorn, near Wolfsburg, home of Volkswagen, this sort of work is likely to be much in demand.

S&B Schwertrans was founded in 2000 and currently employs around 30 people in the lifting and heavy transport business.
