Blessed access

A reader spotted an electrical contractor working on the ceiling of a church in Bradford, Yorkshire, in the UK last week. Given the state of his access equipment, it was clear that it must have been relying on divine intervention to keep its employees safe.

The scaffold has no safe method for climbing it, no real platforms an unstable build and and and....

In the words of our reader: “This was spotted today by myself in a church in Bradford. The contractor (who looks like he has used their own equipment) is a locally based electrical company. The height being worked at is 10.5 metres and although it isn't clear in the picture there is a man in amongst the wooden beams doing work.”

“The scaffold is certainly not suitable for the job, the outriggers are not suitable, it isn't tied in, has no means of climbing it, has no rest platforms, toe boards, handrails, safety or loading info, plus several other factors which are both illegal and damn dangerous.”

10.5 metres up and no fixed platfrom -but there is a man up there

“I did call the company concerned to voice my opinions and offer my own scaffold services but was only able to leave a message on the phone.”

“I did however say a quick prayer on the way out.”

His comments sum up the failings well, a most definite Death Wish
