Third time still lucky

Two window cleaners were saved by their harnesses earlier this week after one side of the suspended platform they were working from dropped suddenly without warning.

The two were close to the 42nd storey of a building on 6th Avenue and 46th Street in Manhattan, New York, when one of the motors suffered a mechanical fault and the emergency brake failed to function. Fortunately they were wearing harnesses and lanyards and were pulled to safety after fire crews managed to cut through the glass window.

Two men saved from the 42nd storey after the motors suffered a mechanical fault

Amazingly for one of the workers this was the third time he had needed to be rescued from a suspended platform incident.

Both men were relatively unharmed, although they were taken to hospital as a precaution before being released.
