Alimak lift for Landprop

LandProp, part of the Inter IKEA Group, has taken delivery of a refurbished Alimak SE 630FC combined passenger/goods hoist for the maintenance of its newly built 40 metre sculpture in Stratford, London.

The lift was originally manufactured in 2004 as a temporary passenger lift for projects with Newham Council and has since been refurbished and modernised with Alimak Hek’s latest ALCII lift controller, a new car, operating panel and autodial telephone. The rack and pinion lift has a 630kg capacity and has been installed down the centre of the sculpture to assist with its maintenance.

Craig Brown, industrial lift manager for Alimak Hek UK, said: “Being able to refurbish a pre-used lift not only extended the life of the unit and minimised costs, but meant that once again we were able to deliver a solution that met all the stringent demands of our customer.”

The newly built 40 metre sculpture in Danes Yard, London.

The self-supporting hyperboloid sculpture is made from a lattice of glued laminated PEFC certified Siberian Larch laths supported by a series of steel rings. The structure is illuminated at night by over 600 low energy LED lights which can be programmed for both intensity and colour to achieve a range of visual effects.

The Alimak Hek SE 630FC hoist will be used for the maintenance of a sculpture

Located at Danes Yard next door to the Olympic site, it is part of Strand East development’s 10 year redevelopment plan for the site which will be bigger than the Olympic Village.

IKEA’s subsidiary LandProp plans to build 1,200 new houses, with 58,000 square metres of space for businesses, as well as local shops, cafes, restaurants and other community facilities.
