Jim McGregor 1940-2012

Jim McGregor, a leading mast climbing work platform expert has died following a short illness.

He passed away on Saturday December 8th aged 72. Although he had been feeling a little unwell he was still spotted looking at a potential project in Dublin within the past few weeks - a measure of his interest in access equipment to the end.

McGregor’s career included a spell with the Merchant Navy, working as a coalface miner, becoming a passionate mast climber erector/installer/engineer in the early 1980s. He soon became an equally passionate advocate of the HEK mast climbing system from that time.

Since then his enthusiasm for mast climbers took him all over the world creating innovate access solutions for numerous major projects including the Forth Road Bridge, Minerva House in Leeds, the Burj Al Arab hotel in Dubai and Heathrow airport’s Terminal 5 in London Heathrow.

Above all else he will be remembered for his hands on approach to engineering complex access solutions, coupled with his good humoured approach to the most difficult of situations.

The funeral will be held in Leeds on Tuesday 18th December. Anyone wishing to attend should advise his son in law [email protected]

I knew Jim very well and he was totally committed to his love of mast climbing work platforms
My memories are of great guy with a fantastic sense of humour .
