APS to distribute X-Step

Bison Products has appointed Access Platform Sales (APS) as UK distributor for its X-Step low-level access platform.

X-Step, first seen last year with Hire Station, it is designed as an alternative to steps and podiums for working heights of up to three metres. It is powered by a 24 volt sealed rechargeable battery which operates a smooth electric screw type actuator, to raise the single scissor stack.

The X-Step has no hydraulics

The unit weighs just 85kgs or 75kgs without the guardrail and has stowed dimensions of 900mm x 700mm x 500mm, allowing it to fit comfortably in the rear of a car or small van. It has a lift capacity of 140kg, enough for one person with tools.

Standard features include non-marking wheels and auto-locking brakes to prevent movement of the platform while elevated, plus storage for a spare battery which according to the manufacturer can be changed in seconds and will last for around 80 full cycles.

The X-Step is lightweight, compact and offers a three metre working height

Richard Tindale, sales and marketing director at APS/IPS – now the IAPS group - said: “The X-Step is a completely new concept which fits below conventional push-around scissor lifts, and is a really safe and efficient alternative to podiums and steps for a variety of facilities maintenance and internal construction activities.”

“The machine is small and light enough to be easily moved around anywhere, and there is absolutely no chance of damage or contamination from oil or battery acid leaks. There are innumerable applications in healthcare, pharmaceutical and food preparation facilities, as well as in commercial buildings and retail.”

Neil Watson, managing director of Bison Products added: “With over 25 years experience with brands such as the Towermatic, Razadeck, RedRad, Koolcube, Linklite and many more, choosing the right partner has proven key. Over recent years I’ve been extremely focused when searching and appointing suitable partners for our product range. When the right partner is appointed it normally means success for the product and offers a springboard to introduce more innovative products. For our powered access products like X-Step, APS is the natural choice as a sales partner. After its merger last year with IPS it is a company with all levels of management, skills and after sales support that Bison needs.”

This is an interesting new product, which will be released officially today at the Executive Hire Show, in Coventry – the UK’s tool and general equipment rental exhibition.

Its success will depend to some extent on its price, as it will go head to head with the new Power Towers Peco lift which offers a 3.5 metre working height, and doesn’t even use a battery – the Peco will also be officially launched to the general market today.

Both products have been pioneered by Hire Station, the general and tool hire division of publicly quoted Vp – which also owns UK Forks the telehandler company. We will give the X step a closer look at the show.

One thing is for certain, both new products look set to cut deeply into the podium, steps and step ladder market.
