1,000 Pecolifts for Nationwide Platforms
Some six months or so after Nationwide Platforms acquired its first quantities of the manually powered Pecolift from Power Towers, the company has decided to step up its investment in the unique low level work platform to the point where it expects to have around 1,000 units by year end.
The company made the decision to invest in the Pecolift following a long-term consultation with selected members of its UK and international team and clients in the construction, industrial maintenance, facilities management and other key sectors most likely to utilise low level access.
With a substantial number of units already delivered, Nationwide Platforms’ Pecolifts are currently deployed on some of the UK’s largest projects, including the St Barts redevelopment and Heathrow T2B.

The Pecolift
The Pecolift orders are part of a larger investment programme for 2013 which will also see it replenish a significant proportion of its fleet, along the lines of last year’s 14 percent fleet replacement programme, whilst also investing in a selection of brand new products.
The Pecolift offers a maximum working height of 3.5 metres, has a tiny footprint and weighs just 180kg. Lift comes by turning the counterbalanced wheel in the platform taking the platform to full height in 11 seconds with very little physical effort. Four point braking is automatic as soon as the platform lifts off.
Richard Miller, Nationwide Platforms’ executive director – sales said: “Our major investment in this product represents our belief that the Pecolift can truly transform working at height for many of our customers. Not only does the product present an incredibly cost effective, safe and convenient method of working, the number of applications it can aid is also incredibly impressive.”
“This revolutionary low level access platform is a highly-efficient and safety-conscious alternative to traditional means of access such as podium steps, ladders, and step ladders, which combined are thought to contribute to around a third of reported fall-from-height incidents every year. Comparatively the Pecolift is also incredibly competitive in terms of costs and environmental credentials. It’s our aim to share these benefits with our customers across the UK.”
Vertikal Comment
This is a substantial number of units and ideal for funding the heavy investment in tooling that the British based company has made and needs to make, in order to reduce the production cost of what is a very high quality product.
The lower cost will allow it to turn a profit from the low price that it needs to sell them at in order to generate sufficient volumes to make the product a transformational one. That in turn generates more volume and the virtuous cycle is repeated all over again.
