DLT jacking tower for China
Heavy lifting and jacking system manufacturer Dorman Long Technology (DLT) has been awarded a contract by China Petroleum First Construction Company to construct a 5,000 tonne modular lifting tower system.
Used for the erection of petrochemical vessels up to 160 metres in height the new tower system, to be named the MYQ5000, will be manufactured in the company’s Shanghai facility and set for delivery early next year.
The tower is free standing up to 90 metres without support cables and is mounted on tracks allowing for vessels to be moved once lifted. They can also be rotated using a 5,000 tonne capacity swivel system incorporated into the modular lifting beam.

Used for the erection of petrochemical vessels weighing up to 5,000 tonnes and up to 160 metres in height
Using four 1394 tonne DL-S1394 strand jacks it has a lifting speed of 23 metres an hour. Other features include wireless central monitoring and synchronised control of all jacking systems, a single level of guys for heights over 90 metres and the option for the tower to either be bolted down to concrete foundations or supported on load spreading mats.

The company said: “With petrochemical vessels in China set to rise above 4,000 tonnes in the very near future CPFCC are investing in the MYQ5000 as the most practical and economic method of handling these extra heavy vessels. The MYQ5000 is intended initially for work inside China, but has been designed by DLT for use internationally.”

Mounted on tracks to allow for movement
