The oldest Skyjack?

Rental company Power Lift Equipment of Concord, Ontario, Canada, claims to have one of the earliest Skyjack machines still working and has entered it into Skyjack’s Quest 2013 competition.

Power Lift purchased the Skyjack SJ 6.5-10 over 20 years ago from LW Matthews Equipment, a Skyjack dealer later purchased by Hertz Equipment Rental.

The unit is still going strong and is now nicknamed ‘The Survivor’. Service manager Marsh Tonner, said: “The machine is a marvel, it was one of the early models produced by Skyjack, but has always worked extremely well. Apart from requiring periodic battery changes and having its guard rails replaced after the discovery of some hairline cracks, the machine has never had any notable problems, it has cost us virtually zero dollars in maintenance over the years.”

The competition is still open, but you will need a unit that was built prior to 1993 to stand a chance of winning. Given that early deliveries went in to the local market, there is a good chance that a Canadian will win this – so if you are reading this in Canada and have an old scissor lift in the yard check out its make and build date.
