Counterfeit Terex Demag warning
Terex has issued a warning regarding counterfeit Terex/Demag crawler cranes, after receiving a number of reports of counterfeit models originating from China.
Counterfeit models are being assembled, branded and sold as used Terex cranes in a similar manner to reports we carried back in 2009 –
Counterfeit Demags – with the most recent wave of reports occurring in China, South Korea, Singapore, India and Pakistan.
While they are made to look like Terex cranes – most commonly CC2500 lattice boom crawlers – they are usually painted red and typically assembled from a blend of older and newer technology and a mix and match of components not designed to work together. The counterfeit cranes can usually be spotted by poor weld quality, inferior steel structures and improperly fitted tracks. Additionally, many of the standard safety components are missing.

Klaus Meissner, director of product integrity for Terex Cranes, said: "We are aware of three different ‘designs’ of the CC 2500-1 crane on the market, and of at least nine or 10 fake cranes that have been sold, all originating from China. This is a serious situation, not only because this infringes on our intellectual property but, more importantly, it poses a serious safety risk for our customers. The use of these inferior, counterfeit cranes can result in deadly consequences."
"Unfortunately going by serial number alone will not determine with certainty if the purchaser is buying a genuine Terex crane, as these plates can be fake as well,” adds Meissner. "Many of the counterfeit cranes were purchased either without an on-site inspection or through an inspection conducted by an unqualified person.”
The company has stressed the importance of conducting a thorough inspection of any used cranes by a qualified individual prior to purchasing the machine, especially in the markets of concern. It has also set up an email address for customers who wish to inquire about the authenticity of any Terex crane:
[email protected].
