EnCore refurbs tower crane
A Potain tower crane working in Pune, India has been fully refurbished under Manitowoc’s Crane Care’s EnCore programme after it suffered major structural damage during a cyclone.
The MCi 85 A, owned by Arabtech Construction, was working on the building site of the 56-storey Raheja Revanta Project in Gurgaon when a huge storm struck with winds up to 150km/h causing major structure damage.
After transporting the crane 1,465km to Potain’s facility in Pune, eight EnCore engineers took 25 days to repair the crane. Work included structural repairs to the mast and cage, cathead, cab, hoist winch and control panels. The team of engineers also had to replace 50 metres of jib parts and the counter jib assembly.

The refurbished Potain tower crane returning to work at a residential project in Gurgaon
Gurdeep Singh of Manitowoc Crane Care India, said: “This was a huge repair and refurbishment job but we completed it in a timely manner and kept costs to a minimum – we are delighted with the result. When major components are damaged, logistics costs increase because new parts need to be sourced from different factories. But the work was still far more cost effective than buying a new crane.”
Following the repair, the Potain MCi 85 A returned to work at a residential project in Gurgaon for contractor Indiabulls.
