Deutz gathers strength

Deutz AG of Cologne, has reported a strong increase in sales of its compact diesel engines, with over 145,000 units delivered in the in the first nine months of 2005.

Sales were up nine percent to €936 million and operating income up 49 percent. The strong performance plus an extraordinary profit on the sale of its marine division, not only produced a good result, but also saw its balance sheet improve to its strongest in 20 years, thanks to a substantial reduction in net debt.

The company is predicting a strong forth quarter which could see it complete the year with engine sales reaching 200,000 units.

Vertikal Comment

Deutz air cooled engines were once the mainstream power unit for aerial lifts. Its market dominance was brken by the Hatz Silent pack and then Japanese engines such as Kubota and more recently Perkins.

Deutz though has made something of a come back and is also gaining momentum in the telehandler business.
