New training facility for Manitowoc
Manitowoc is opening a new training centre at its Crane Care facility in St Pierre de Chandieu, to the south of Lyon, France, which opened on July 1st.
The new centre will cover all Manitowoc products and incorporate the functions currently carried out at the company’s current training base in Baudemont which is closing after a long history as a Potain training facility.
The new building includes five training rooms equipped with interactive equipment and a showroom displaying over 30 operational tower crane mechanisms for training purposes. To make sure trainees are provided with the most up-to-date skills, the training rooms are equipped with a latest generation simulators, specially adapted furniture and touch screen equipment.

The hands-on equipment includes four Potain tower cranes – an MDT 178 and MDT 248 top-slewing tower crane and an Igo 50 and Igo T 130 self-erecting tower crane along with one Grove mobile crane. The new training centre will offer 55 different hands-on training modules, running between two days and seven weeks. Manitowoc expects to train more than 1,500 crane technicians per year at the facility, which it says is among the most advanced in the industry. It is also highly certified to carry out a wide range of official courses, including French CACES and Swiss SUVA.
The facility at St Pierre de Chandieu is one of 10 Manitowoc training centres around the world that train operators and service technicians.
Training centre manager Ghislaine Journay said: “Our comprehensive training programmes cover every area of crane use, and this new facility will allow us to deliver those courses in the best manner possible. Using the latest equipment and cutting-edge technology, together with our in-house experts, we can deliver the optimum support service to our customers.”
