Nationwide announces transport partnership
Nationwide Platforms is to form a partnership with UK logistics, supply chain and transport company Wincanton.
Effective from the start of next year, Nationwide’s transport staff and delivery vehicles will be transferred to Wincanton which will take responsibility for Nationwide’s machine deliveries and collections. The deal will also introduce new planning tools and technology, intended to improve customer service and an increase equipment availability.
Jeremy Fish, managing director of Nationwide Platforms, said: “The switch-over is expected to be virtually un-noticed by customers, who will see little difference in the people and vehicles they are used to. Going forwards, however, we expect to see real improvements in on-time deliveries, reduced collection lead times and increased communication. The partnership will also offer further career and personal development opportunities for our drivers and transport staff. We are currently undertaking a consultation with staff and customers to ensure the transition is smooth and beneficial for all involved.”

Well we all said that the partnership wouldn't last and it hasn't, goodbye wincanton. Lost all the best drivers in under 1 year, well done!!!

I disagree with transferring anything to a outside company especially transport.
With the amount of different machines that access companies have a in-house trained delivery driver is the safest way to do customer deliveries.
If you are employed direct with a firm you try your hardest everyday to keep your customers happy. If you turn up with a machine that is wrong for the job being in the access game you could give advice about other machines that would help, if your just a subbie you would not have knowledge or inclination to do this.
Also you try your utmost to get to drops on time wanting you customers to keep using you. If subbied out the bond has been lost.
I can see a lot of customers moving to smaller firms for a better closer service.

think you could be on to something there fixit theres no way the transport has been run so poorly by accident

Out sourcing transport, turning down customers own MEWP's servicing, selling off over abundant machines,
Sounds like streamlining before the big sell to me.

At least they will get their true cost of transport and know where they stand. It might be a bit of a shocker when they see it though. In many cases the true cost of transport is not added into the rental rate and is just absorbed into the general overheads. I bet in most rental companies some jobs are just not worth it when the true cost of transport is accounted for.

despite all this investment they managed to make things worse
Driver 79 mac
Well grummy, they are using the same drivers, so no change, will it work?, time will tell.

It may be a great move, Time will tell but unexpected after the investment they have made to transport management in recent years.
Their next set of numbers will be of interest to all.

Great move Lavendon!
I have spent so much time analysing transport recoveries, own trucks against outsourced.
My findings are that despite being more expensive we seem to get more moves from outsourced truck drivers, so, off-loading all the VOSA, Working Time Directive, driving hours, rest periods issues as well as constantly unhappy drivers sounds good to me.
Oh dear AccessiBL in your haste to come back at me you have failed in a number of ways.
Firstly you didn't read my post properly. In comparison to Lavendon when it comes to the supply of powered access we are all less successful. They have more machines, turnover more money and have more customers. So my comment about the less successful was not about me or you, but all of us who poke holes in what Lavendon do. I know you just wanted to come back with a little witty dig at my comment, but wit needs accuracy!!
Was I trying to demonstrate how clever I am by commenting against the flow? I don't think so. You seem to be the only truly negative commenter on this thread! I don't think you constitute "the flow." Sorry to burst your bubble.
But when Europe's most powerful powered access supplier makes quite a radical decision surely the postings should be asking why? Or what can we learn from this? We may not like Lavendon, I am personally on big fan, but they are not stupid and we can learn from them.
Third mistake you have made is in your haste to reply you have let good English go out of the window. Slow down, your replies will be more effective if written properly!!

None of the 'less successful' have said anything to 'rubbish' anything. They are merely expressing opinions and thoughts. I believe you are erroneously making judgements, unlike anyone else. Or just demonstrating how clever you are by going against the flow.
Successful people can do that, I suppose.
We ALL hope it works for them.
A brave move from Lavendon. Immediately the less successful rubbish the idea. But then new ideas scare some people.
Hope it works for them. If it does watch all those knocking now follow suit!!

another cracking idea by lavendon
Also - they emailed me to say that they would no longer do servicing or inspections on my 5 MEWPS I have at work with immediate effect - lucking the great guy who did the work Chris Arnold ( CJ Access ) is being recommended to take over some of the work. So at least they are trying to protect their ex-subbies but leaving established customers without their regular services that Nationwide have excelled at ! Am sure there's a big bag of worms in there somewhere....

Hhmmmm....
No transport department....
Engineers subbed out to IPS. Sales team re-located to Delhi. Lutterworth re-directing calls.
Is our nation's biggest beginning to fall apart? Can it be stopped?
