Tower crane rescue training

HBG Construction has responded to a plea for help from the South Yorkshire Fire Service to use its tower crane at the Sheffield Learning Resource Centre project site for rescue training.

The Red, Blue, White and Green watches of the Sheffield Central Station took their turns on four different days at rescue operations up the tower crane, led by station manager, Dave Kiddy.

Kiddy commented: “It is important that our teams are familiar with the equipment and procedures required to undertake a rescue that might occur involving a tower crane, so it has been very helpful for HBG to allow us to gain access to such a ‘live’ training ground. I am sure the crews will be better able to respond to such an emergency in future having had this experience”.
